I have been trying to fix a Rega Planar 3 with motor issues...

Symptom: Motor runs fine. After a minute it gets slow and eventually goes backwards (was tempted to find my Beatles white album)
Solution 1 > I replaced the cap (.22f) and the resister (100 Ohms)
Result > Ran beautifully until after an hour I smelt electrical fire smell. Stop the table. Turn it over. The motor is too hot to touch... mmmm  ???

Solution 2 > replace the motor with another that I got from Apocalypse Boy...
Result > Eish! Motor has no torque and vibrates massively....  :'(

Solution 3 > replace the resister with another .22f cap...
Result > Motor rubs beautifully. Vibrations are gone. Good torque. Table is on speed (well a smidgen fast but nothing drastic). (replacement) Motor stays cool. But.  :-\

There is now an electrical hum from the motor when it runs... Not to bad but enough for me to consider it 'not right'.

Does anyone have any more ideas?
