Following some remarks on certain threads, it got me thinking about my own experience.

While studying, and with part time money earnings, I managed to put together my first "Real" hifi.

A Linn Sondek LP12/Linn Kann speakers & Naim Nait integrated amplifiers(I know, I know....I was handicapped from an early stage🤠🤠😊😉)

Moved into my own appartment and the room was absolutely dreadful, compared to the living room at my Dad's house where I lived.

So starting out, new home, new job, new everything except MONEY....

Off I went to the local Checkers and got myself a whole pile of this grey 2.5 dozen egg boxes, and some prestix.

Started off strategically I place a few around the walls and could immediately hear a difference. Was so excited i just got carried away and did two walls completely full(BIG mistake) Room became so dull I felt i was listening in a Vault.

So it took me weeks to play with these boxes placed in various positions, until i find i was happy with the sound. Had absolutely no idea of professional room treatment so just followed trial and error.

Was this the best way to approach room treatment,  hell NO. But it did provide me with some insight as to the importance of a room sounding reasonable good to have your Audio gear playing.

Years later in our stores, I never went into serious treatments of our demo rooms. We did try to simulate normal living room conditions( Curtails, mat, chairs tables with equipmentstands). But I always believed it to be a catch 22. If you had the perfect room in the studio,  playing Brand A, there where always the chance of the buyer having remorse once setup in his normal( untreated room) And feel that he/she got tricked into the sound.
So the idea was to create a listening environment where the client could relax and listen,  knowing that if he liked what he heard in the shop, it easily would perform better back home.

So does room treatment make a difference and is it necessary? My answer will be an immediate YES.
To what extent every person pursues this, depends on the specific  listening room and personal taste.
