When I saw the excellent restoration job that Gareth80 did on a Sansui AU-999, I decided that it is time to restore my AU 777.
The AU 777 was Sansui's first Solid State amplifier model, so from a collectors view, I had to restore it.
Mine has been in storage for a long time, so I took it out and first cleaned it. Cosmetically it is in a good condition with all its original knobs.
It did not even switch on. Not even an indication light.
a Friend friend of mine helped me to restore/repair the AU 777. After lots of intensive work during a couple of days the AU 777 works well.
This one had a lot of faults. To mention only some:
Replaced > 10 capacitors.
Replaced 2 output transistors that were leaky.
The two incandescent bulbs with holders that form part of the protection circuit were removed and replaced with some LED's- obvious
the set won''t switch on. Replaced the LED's with similar bulbs and holders as the original ones (not easy to find).
Replaced some potentiometers.
Set works fine. Output +/- 35 Watt.
There is still some minor restoration work to be done.
I will later post some pictures of the restored AU-777
