Searching for signal

Hi guys - was wondering if anyone else's setup does this:
Firstly my system is an onkyo amp, with dstv (via rca's into amp) and ps3(via hdmi) connected to a samsung lcd (hdmi from amp to tv)

The problem occurs with dstv - when I switch evrything on - dstv audio comes through the speakers immediately, but there is no video for about 2min(blue screen), then I get a 'searching for signal' message on the tv...eventually after abt 3min the video comes on to the tv.
I also notice that with some dstv channels the screen goes blank and 'searching for signal' msg appears for 2secs, then goes back to normal.  Anyone else get this too?

Could the problem be the rca cables from the decoder into the amp...or the hdmi from the amp to the tv? No issues with the ps3...
Should I be thinking abt hd dstv which uses hdmi into amp avoiding all rca cables
