Earlier this week, I read a piece by a guy who mapped out the stages audiophiles go through on their journey—moving from, let's say, a novice to a seasoned listener. I purposefully don't share the piece as I don't stimulate a debate about whether we, you and I, agree or disagree with his view. Instead, I question more openly whether you have experienced a shift in what is vital in how a system sounds.

I certainly can recognise the various stages I went through in my journey but I am hesitant to extrapolate that as the road and end destination we all are on. I had two listening sessions this week with friends and new acquaintances, during which it was crystal clear that they value completely different aspects of sound playback.

So let's start from the notion that we value different aspects of the reproduced sound but share how perhaps we can map the stages each one of us has gone through.

Any thoughts or views?
