This is going to be done as time and most importantly, as funds allow (jurre seker nooit). So about a week ago, I got a package from a guy I know, the compnay deals with and supplies veneer. Now before you guys go off and say its not worth the work spent on these speakers, its what is available. The plan.........to cover a complete set of 5 speakers, 1 main has some damage at the base which is what started this madness..... shouldnt be to difficult to sought that issue though. The set in question (pic taken off the net) are the Jamo S506, Jamo S502 and a Jamo S500 centre speakers...........like so
The package......pre cut for me.
Its called White Ash, chosen for its lovely wavey character. This is dependent on the cut used at the processing plant. Unsure of what cut this is, but will ask should anyone need to know.

The finish, deep red mahogany with a gloss finish......like so. Now picture those Jamo's, with this veneer in this mahogany finish
Couple of concerns with doing this. All the cabs have a rather thick lip all around the rear....about 12mm wide and about 5mm from the rear baffle. I see two ways of dealing with this......I could take a flush trim bit to this and get it flush with the rear baffle (easiest option), or cut strips of veneer and cover the lips. The later being a more tricky and time consuming option.
All front baffles have a 1.5mm gap all round from the rest of the cabs, see images here. Not quite sure how to overcome this one and would love some advice. Then the floorstanders also have a 2 part/piece front baffle with a different finish to the rest of the cab. Here i could finish the lwoer half in veneer as well, or leave as is and maybe change color. Would look donderse sexy with the bottom half finished like the rest. Ideally I would love to be able to remove the front baffle holding the drivers as this would give me the opportunity to do the cabs proper. Not something Im keen on doing though.
I dont have serious woodwork tools, so doing any major surgery on the cabs will be out of the question.
I will be using normal Alcolin cold glue/wood glue to attach the veneer panels to the cabs, once the plastic vinyl has been removed and the cabs have had a touch up.
Would a oil stain be safe to use, keeping in mind the glue being used? And what brand stain would you guys recommend?
Once stained, the final part would be to finish it off, with a gloss and buff. Again, what would you guys recommend as a paint on type gloss.
