I'm new to all of this and have a few questions regarding speakers and amp power output. I've got a Denon AVR-1611 (110W x 5 @ 6ohm 1 kHz, THD 0,7% / 75W x 5 @ 8ohm 20Hz-20kHz, 0.05%). What exactly does the kHz and THD % mean? I assume you get more power to the speakers when the resistance is lower? Does that mean 6ohm speakers will be louder? Does a lower THD mean better clarity? Will 6ohm speakers sound worse that 8ohm speakers?
Then secondly, I'm currently running a cheap boxed set of Yamaha 5.1 speakers and am looking around for an upgrade. I've demo'ed the KEF C series and honestly thought they'd be clearer, maybe I should demo them again just to be sure. I'm also keen to demo the Monitor Audio BX series and Polk TSi series (no idea on the Polk pricing). Looking at around R12,000 for a full 5.1 system. For those of you who've tried what I've mentioned here before, what are your opinions?
Thanks in advance.
