Sound level fading after playing loud for long period

Hi All !

This has been bugging me for a while, so thought I'll ask the experts.
When playing music loudly (for between 3-4 hours) I've noticed (so has friends), that the loudness seems to fade, and the amp volume needs to be turned up to achieve the same level of loudness. I've noticed this phenomenon on all the amps I've had. Is this only a perception, or do amplifiers under a fair bit of load, lose power as they heat up when being played over a long period ?
