Splitting DSTV signal

Hi all

This is simple enough. I want to split my DSTV signal, into two, 1 to the TV in loung and 1 to TV in the room.
I've used the Ellies splitter - 1 in to 2 out. But for some reason the splitter died after about 2 minutes, so i bought a second splitter,
and the same thing happened, got picture and sound for a few minutes, and then it died and DSTV lost signal. Then i plugged the cable
directly to the decoder and everything is fine, but the splitter no longer works.
What could be the problem? I'm confused now.
