I'm not in the market for an amp, but when undertaking some general chit-chat with the Hi Fi Retailers, and Balanced Audio I've learnt that Yamaha no longer brings in the AS2100 or AS1100 amps.
These were good amps no doubt. Apparently, Yamaha has the CX5000 (PRe/Power) here in South Africa on "consignment" and I'm not surprised as it's R360,000K for the two which is way too much as the AS ranged was ~R30K.
According to someone from Digital Expereince, the only comparable amp to the AS series is the Marantz PM10 at R100-R150K and that's it really.
The only stereo integrated that's less and could be on par is the Mcintosh (around R70K I think).
I suppose my question is what other amp is comparable to the AS 1100 or 2100 series from Yamaha that is not the CX price point.
