Hi all,

I have a couple questions regarding sub woofers as I am getting a feel for what’s out there in the new / second hand space.

I see a lot of sub woofer provide a Frequency Range and a Frequency Response, what is the difference between the two?

Take for example the B&W AS610XP lists the below:

Frequency range-6dB at 18Hz and 25 / 140Hz adjustable (EQ at A)

And

Frequency response±3dB 25Hz – 40 / 140Hz adjustable (EQ at A)

And based on the above what is a decent range/response to look for?

I see a lot of subs list 25hz to 180hz, would this be good?

From my limited understanding I’m guessing that the lower frequency is better as I’ve seen the SVS subs can hit 18hz.

And then even on that I’m so confused, I like the SVS SB-1000 and SVS-SB2000 but damn those are pricey. I have seen decent second hand pricing every now and then on the SVS subs and I’m not in a major rush so I can wait.

But I have also seen Velodyne EQ-12 Max at a what looks like a decent second hand price or 7K. Is velodyne or SVS worth it?

Or are there alternate smallish sized subs that pack a punch.

I have looked at Polk HT-12 which I know can’t really compare to Velodyne or SVS.
