Me and my pallets again :goofy:
I have an outside table that is two poles that are cemented into the paving with sleepers as a tabletop. Sounds nice... except the sleepers were neglected and started rotting. And then to make matters worse the previous owners decided to encase the sleepers in cement.
So my plan is to chop off all the cement and then encase the sleepers in the reclaimed wood from the pallets to have a nice rustic look. Problem is that 4 of the sheets have some cupping. How do you guys think I should handle this? I've read some guys leave the strips on wet grass in the morning and let the sun bake them dry to remove the cupping. I've also seen a guy take a heat gun to it to reduce the cupping.
I don't have a jointer/planer/thicknesser but I have seen guys make a jig and then use their router to route a flat surface onto a strip of lumber... so I might try that as well. The tabletop will be about 800 x 2400
My thoughts are:
1. Try the morning dew de-cupping technique.
2. Glue pieces together to make 2 separate 800x1200 sections
3. Do the router jig thing to plane them down to uniform thickness
4. Somehow glue/fasten them down together onto the sleepers to make a waterproof seam.
I welcome any suggestions on how to go about doing this.
