I m sure I was raving about my Kensington GRs before. Somehow because the Bullfrogs and Max1 kept me busy for quite a long time - those outstanding Tannoy speakers almost got forgotten. A few weeks ago I received my long awaited Brinkmann Mono Amps, the Marconi Pre and so together with Brinkmanns legendary Nyquist DAC and Balance TT I started to experiment with different speakers and set ups.

I was shocked how "light, easy or effortless" the Brinkmann Monos performed with my Avantgarde Duo Mezzos - btw a great combo here as well. I was wondering in which constellations those Brinkmanns will show their excellence as well...

So this made me choose the Turnberrys and Kensingtons as well - simply to try out how the Brinkmann will drive and play with those Tannoys.
The result on both speaker models is mind-blowing . The outcome here is almost the same - or very very close to each other but Kensingtons having slightly more headroom to deal with more complex dynamics and yes their ability in handling Bass goes further and lower. But in their tonal character both speaker models showing similar talents.

First of all ...both models are ideal for small and medium sized rooms - and both models are very very easy to set up. It took me only 10 minutes to make them completely
dissapear while with other speakers this sometimes can take days and weeks.
Clearly....the first notes made instantly clear - thats the (famous) sound of real Tannoys. A warm temperament which makes it so pleasant to listen to them for hours and hours. But warmth luckily doesnt goes hand in hand with a lack of speed or resolution.
The character is as I expect from any pointsource.... like an acoustic magnifier.... every musician is at his place, instruments as well. The performance, music happens or is grounded on a virtual stage...a huge wide stage. The timing of any presentation, any kind or sort of music is precise and well received to human hearing skills and expections (to feel good).

Very similar to the ability of any Gryphon amp...the Brinkmann Mono having and showing lot s of "crunch and tork" here (yes big Gryphons having far far more).
How can I drescribe it best (in english ;)) Its like Gryphons and Brinkmann playing with a speaker...not only "at" a speaker. And those Tannoy are grateful with any better amp they get - yes before the Brinkmann Monos I started with Unisons Triode 25 and this is a very good start for someone who wants to grow or upgrade step by step.
The Tannoys always remain the same... from a Triode 25 to the Brinkmann Monos up to a Gryphon Mephisto Monster.... BUT .... they can handle any big and bigger amp and transform more power into more music.... or making it feel more intense and deep.

So yes... Turnberrys and Kensingtons (GR Series) are in permanent demo for a couple of weeks and whoever feels to experienced a great and somehow affordable High End Combination is invited to hear, feel, laugh or cry..... ;)
