I have a Technics SL-10 turntable as part of a vintage Technics system. I notice that there is a slight thump at each revolution of the record that does not seem to be related to the condition of the record itself. The thump occurs on every record but appears to be louder on some. A fairly recent review of the SL-10 mentioned this phenomenon being present in all early direct drive models and had something to do with the arm's servo motor.
