Hi all
I spent a frustrating few hours yesterday evening trying to set up my HT system in its new dedicated room. Most of that time was spent squashed up against the wall, neck at an uncomfortable angle, fighting with my Yamaha RXV 1600 and the unterminated surround and surround back speaker terminals. On completion of that exercise it took all of 2 minutes to plug in my nicely terminated (with banana plugs) front speakers. This got me thinking. Firstly, which evil tyrant invented unterminated speaker options and did they not know that there are severely DIY challenged people like myself out there? Secondly, how difficult is it to terminate speaker cables and thirdly, where would one acquire those banana plugs in order to do so? Lastly, what do you need to know in order to do this? What should I be careful of and what dangers to my system do I pose if I get anything wrong? Your learned advice will be most welcome.
