I have been toying with idea of starting this thread for a while but somehow held back?.. not sure why. Then Air posted ?Towards a new way of thinking about music reproduction and the enjoying music? and I realised that we should share from our own perspective. So that we can see the world from another perspective, what other people cherish and appreciate.

The subject of this thread is arguably the top musician ever to come from our shores

You need to make some time to appreciate this. The music is fantastic, the story interesting and the video clips so rare that you will never see them again. (Download it if you can)

Kammers?ngerin Mimi Coertse (Dame Mimi Coertse)

One of the most decorated opera and lieder coloratura soprano of her time, sang in all the opera houses of the world, sang for JF Kennedy, Khrushchev, etc. She has a very distinctive sweet tone in her voice and also a distinctive style. She is now 83 and still going strong.

On my 50th birthday (ten years ago) my kids and their other halves got us tickets to see the ?Black Tie Ensemble? perform at the State Theatre. This was a group of Mimi?s students basically doing their practical and Mimi was there (in fact she sang for us that day). Afterwards we went to a fancy restaurant and were ushered into a private dining room and who was there, Mimi Coertse. (The kids had arranged it, she was/is the Godmother of one of them). It was such a treat. I remember she ordered 5 oysters on ice (not six,?. five) and French Mo?t et Chandon. She is a real diva, loved it.

The following documentary is basically the story of her life in 3 parts. Queue the first one and YouTube will do the rest. Enjoy.

The sad thing is that some of the youngsters here might not even know the name and I am sure many have not heard her sing, let?s fix that.
