Hi guys
I have 2 questions:
1. I have a Rotel RMB1066, that I am using in bridge mode (3 x 150W) to power my Fronts and Center. The problem I am having is there is a bit of distortion every now and then on the "A Channel". It's not there all the time but only seems to show itself when "power is needed" (if that makes any sense), for example some notes on a piano or very low frequencies.
I have narrowed it down to the "A Channel" by various tests (All once the amp has warmed up) including changing speakers, cables, inputs, ect However the common denominator is the said A Channel.
Now aside from the obvious "Take it to the agents" (Which I might add it was at before I bought it from a fellow forum member, and apparently given a clean bill of health), I would Like to know it there is anything I can do, "Service" wise, cleaning switches, re-flowing solder, ect. I cannot seem to find the service manual on the web either. I would like to try and sort this issue out myself as funds are really limited at the moment and I'm not sure I'd be able to afford any major service or repairs from an agent right now.
2. Is the 60W/Channel better in anyway to the 100odd W/channel my Yamaha RX-A810 is giving ? The reason I'm asking is, as a result of the above mentioned issue, I currently have my center in Bridge mode (150W) on channel B and the fronts in "standard" Mode (60W each) on Channel C, and to my ears running through the RMB1066 sounds better. I know power isn't everything, but is it possible that a power amp that's 5 years older than a receiver (Which in itself is almost 5 years old) could sound better ?
Any ideas welcome.
Thanks
Lawrence
