i have disposed of my b&o, & the very, very old garrard i have is, well, past it - very, very old & battered....

i now want to invest in an entry level turntable & phono stage, & would prefer new rather than 2nd hand.

what i have identified so far is:

dealer 1:
  - cambridge 640 p phono stage just under R2k
- project essential r 4,650.00, or
- project debut 3 r 5,300

internet site - audio zone
  - cambridge 640 p phono stage R1,650.00
- rega rp 1 r 3,990.00, or
- rega rp1 + performance pack r 4,990.00

dealers forum
- fonet systems has (had?) 2 x thorens td309 for r8995.

the td309s look like a good deal, but are a little pricey for me by the time i add on the phono stage.

i am not at all  familiar with project, although i have seen some good things about them.

otherwise the rp1 performance pack seems like a good safe bet. the std rp1 seems to have some good reviews (what hi best buy & 5star)

any advice or other deals to look at?

i will be running it through a valve audio exclame + kef q5s.

dealers are free to pm me with offers.
