My first 'real turntable' that I purchased was a Thorens TD150 MkII AB... Until then I was using one of the poorer 80's Sansui decks that rang like a bell. I spotted the Thorens in the classifieds section of the Cape Argus and gave the guy a call. For R400 I had nothing to lose really. When I picked up the deck I thought it looked a little archaic with the funny balls on the tonearm and the weird hanging thread weight. Arrived home, plugged it in, spun a tune, and voila! What an excellent sound from the deck compared to the Sansui noise monster...
Since then I have wanted to give that deck a new plinth and a complete clean-up... It got packed into the cupboard as I got sidetracked with the Fostex BLH project, the 301 project, the Seas Maya project and then the Big Bass on a budget project (with a few other diversions between)...
Last year on one of my road trips I picked up some Kiaat in Piketberg. The timber was promptly packed into the garage rafters where it stayed since... A coupla weeks ago I took out a piece for the plinths and started planing and sanding....
Sorry no blow by blow pictures with this one but here are the plinths glued up....

I am building two as I have another TD150 that also needs a replinth...
There is still loads to be done but I will post pics as I progress....
