I need to assist my Grade 6 daughter with constructing an electrical stream, but that part of my physics education is a bit rusty. This is what I have done:

Battery+ feeds two wires. One goes directly to the copper constructed handheld ring device that you have to pull through all sorts of loops. This obviously acts as the switch to establish a current. I attached a light bulb and buzzer after this that would light up and buzz once a connection is achieved. Wire back to battery-. So this was the easy part.
I then took a secondary wire from same battery+  and created another (parallel right?) stream flow to the handheld ring device. In that stream I connected a switch and a little motor. What is suppose to happen is that she should be able to illustrate that when the last mentioned is switched off, the rest of the stream functions simply by the connection made between the ring and the loop. When the switch is switched on, that part still functions but now the motor also kicks in. Only IT DOES NOT...

What did I do wrong?
