What does Factory Refurbished really mean?

Hi fellas,

I can get a really good deal on a Compaq 15.6" Presario XY871UA-ABA laptop. It is sold as "factory refurbished" through a large retailer and comes with what appears to be a standard 90-day limited warranty.

What does "factory refurbished" in this sense actually mean? I am buying the machine and some peripherals for my niece as a reward for babysitting over the summer and I don't want her to end up with hassles.

Any advice would be appreciated!

If anyone has any experience with the machine I'm looking at, please also give me a heads up. Thanks!
