So I'm more lurker than contributor to these hallowed pages. But I thought I should just post this and say a general thank-you to all the collective wisdom I've absorbed off this forum over the past two odd years.
I've always been keen on quality audio, but was really just skirting the edges for the most part - buying well reviewed products in the price category just above the mainstream retail price bracket. However, with exceptions, I never really found myself satisfied with the results. But largely thanks to this forum, I've been able to move up in my knowledge, confidence and (consequently) the quality (and physical placement) of products that feed my ears. And those same ears have also become ever more able to appreciate the difference.
Anyway, all the above gushing was sparked by the set-up of a secondary work PC (built from the leftovers after a recent upgrade of my main PC). Everything working nicely from a PC side, but I only had a pair of old gaming headphones (Razer Tiamat 7.1) for listening to music while I work. However, thanks to various things read and understood here, I had the epiphany that I could link up my old Denon UD-M30 (bought all the way back in 2002 in the UK and basically unused for the last 10 years) to headphones (the tiamats have a nice little desktop box to flip between headphones and speakers). And while the room is hardly ideal acoustically (and options for speaker placement limited), I was still able to use what I learnt here to make the best of it. And honestly the system has never sounded better to my ears. So just a general thanks to all the wise heads on these pages while I sit here finally really enjoying this little denon...
