I've decided to invest a bit of money into my stereo setup again. As it is, I currently have Xonar D2X > Pioneer A307R > Dali Concept 8s.
I'm building myself a couple of uThermo absorbers, to put on my rear wall and ceiling. My room is around 3.5m deep and maybe 8M wide, so first reflections off the side walls aren't really an option, not to mention one of them being my sliding door. I also have a concrete ceiling and tiled floors, so for now I think any absorbtive material is better than none?
I've heard that putting my speakers on spikes might get the bass a little more under control, so I'll be popping them in as soon as I find them.
However my real current uncertainty is my soundcard etc. I stay in a bachelor flat and this is my pc / tv and everything in between. I currently have a 2m cable that goes from the 3.5mm output of my D2x to the RCAs on my amp. There's a Little Dot DAC for sale for R1700. Would I see any benefit from using one of these in place of my D2x? I'd be able to run far shorter RCAs between that and my amp if I use a USB cable to connect it as well as having individual negatives for each channel.. Also I do have the option of keeping my D2x and using the tos connection which would allow me to run 24bit/192kHz? I don't specifically go out of my way for high quality movie / series files and that seems like a bit of a can of worms anyway..
If I were to spend more money on my system however, I'm assuming it'd be best spent on a more powerful amp? I picked up a Yamaha AS500 for my brother as a wedding gift, quite regretting giving it to him now :comfort: I expect I'll have to put in +-R2500 or so, along with selling the pioneer, to get anything noticeably better?
Thanks all! Apologies for airing out some thoughts here, I'd just like confirmation that I need to be patient and save up a little more cash, and maybe some clarity on the whole dac story
