What video editing software?

I need to do some training videos that will combine either voice on PowerPoint/desktop or just a recording of a speaker (voice and image), in the most efficiently compressed format. My camera records in .mov format.

What (preferably free!) editing software do you guys recommend? Windows 7 machine.
