hi guys, not sure if this is the right section. hoping someone can help.

i'm starting a DIY woodworking project soon. i have done a lot of research, but still have many questions unanswered.

i'm planing on building a false wall behind the TV, with a floating tv cabinet/unit over layed on the bottom half.

something like this, but wider on the sides and longer on the top for speakers in the future http://www.ode.co.za/Products/TVPanel.aspx

and the TV unit will be offset to the right, like half on the panel and half on the wall.

for the TV unit i would like a white duco finish, from my research, i need to use MDF and spray the enamel paint on and sand and spray and sand and spray and sand and spray

for the false wall, i want a natural wood finish, like ash or walnut. this is where i'm stuck. what wood do i use? i intend on staining it, i don't want to go the veneer route, want it to be my work of art.

so i thought pine and then stain and finish it, but i have read that pine takes stain unevenly, but that could also give it a natural look.

and from checking around, i can only see plywood at board master. Can someone recommend the correct wood to use, and where i can get it, i only see board master as the common results in searches.

thanks guys
