Why don't TV boxes last?

Had a chrome cast that worked fine for a year or so then started giving problems. Now a xiomi TV box and after a year it started with it's problems. Works 1 out if ten times. Updated software, reset it. No improvements. Seems to me that these TV boxes just don't last.
Are there any better options?
