How many hours is your HiFi playing a week?

The stereo system usually on over the weekends.  If I am in the house and awake, something is playing.  Probably averages 3 hours on a Saturday, 6 hours on a Sunday.  The surround system via spotify/chromecast most evenings.  Sound isn't nearly as good, but everything switches on automatically...

"What's that speaker" and other Froggy tales

You could be correct there.  Either way, brilliant - anyone looking for speakers at that price/higher should listen to them before they buy anything.

"What's that speaker" and other Froggy tales

Utterly brilliant.  Completely transparent.  It is as if you are in the room with the musicians (as it always should be, but very rarely is).  You said they were tonally fractionally warm in your post, and would agree.  At the price they are a bargain of note. PS - I was one of the "what's...

When to draw the line at Hi Fi Prices

My friend has a system that would cost 20 times the cost of mine to replace.  Yes it is better on the same CD or streaming source, but diminishing returns is hitting extremely hard at those levels. Room treatments and proper setup are ignored way too often and people (including me much of the...

    Local Audio Expo

Off topic - often wonder if this is wrong and companies should showcase their mid range equipment - the ones the majority of us might be able to afford.

    sectional title levies

Nope - quite normal in the older buildings, they often have central boilers and all water costs included in the levy (thus hot and cold water).  Sad but true in that you are penalised for those that waste water.  We are in the process of putting in meters fix this issue, just not that easy with...

    Power Amp

I have it as 011 789 8578. Must get some more amps to him too.  Great work and remarkably good value for money.

    The Whisky thread

https://www.threeshipswhisky.co.za/art-of-whisky-making/distillery You can book a tour from their website.  I see it is now R350.  Still well worth it.

    Lindt Hazelnut Spread

Thankfully not seen any yet to try out.  Am more than fat enough already.

    Sous Vide

Love my Anova, gets used regularly. I tend to brown the meat with a torch - much easier for me to control than a pan (tend to overcook it).

Air purifiers / Air Revitaliser - good or harmful?

I have the Mi Air Purifier 2s.  Live in an old apartment on the top floor at the top of a ridge (the wind funnels up the valley and batters the windows, often you can't hear phones ringing etc over the howling - lovely if you enjoy the white noise) where the windows don't seal all that well. ...

    Brassiere De Paris Restuarant

Closest would probably be Mosaic?  Don't know Pretoria restaurants that well, so might be others.

    Federer vs Nadal

Also couldn't get tickets - but the hospitality ones (have to assume they allocated them all to these tickets to make more money for themselves) are still available.  I am just not paying R 25k per ticket.  Most irritating. Will have to see what the scalpers are charging closer to the time.

What was your first Hifi and where did you buy it ?

In the early 90's I bought a Rotel CD Player (RCD-865BX) from a shop in the East Rand Mall (long gone and name long forgotten) that was added to my Philips system replacing a cd carousel that had jammed.  Slippery slope, as the massive improvement meant I had to start replacing everything. The...

Finally have a digital streaming solution that sounds half decent

Must try a test and see if thats better than my method of feeding the DAC via USB from a MBP.  Streaming audio is just so easy compared to CD's etc, but any improvement on sound quality is always appreciated.

    Sleep Quality (lighting)

Didn't realize we had these in Jozi - care to share a link to them? Have blackout curtains, no lights and a white noise generator (also known as the aircon, I love the cold so runs all night for 8 months of the year).  Find they all help better than whisky, which is the other option.
