    Amazon Stuffed Delivery

I placed an order with Amazon for 3 Music books for piano (beethoven and mozart sonatas) - I fetched them on Friday at the post office and nearly had a heart attack. The box was not an amazon box but Typek paper box and was mangled as if driven over by a truck. The books are bent, doggy eared...

    Setting up a home LAN

While I could connect quite a couple of my devices via wifi, I've still opted for manual IP config over wired connections. I (to each his own) feel its just simpler and easier. For example, my XBOX has issues authenticating over wifi with wpa2. I still use both, but for all my fixed devices...

    Geyzer Element Replacement - DIY?

While on the topic of Solar Geysers, any recommendations for best Evacuated Tubes solar system (in cpt)?

    Setting up a home LAN

I prefer the cabling, boots, RJ45s and tools from Falcon over the same from Scoop. The Linksys server cabs are cheaper tho from scoop and I'm not much a fan of the switches/routers/modems that Falcon sells.

Trying to copy files from Windows 7 to openelec Xbmc

If OpenElec is Ubuntu based, maybe look at installing WebMin. Gearslave (i think) had a guide somewhere here on the forums setting up an Ubuntu 11 server and there is a section on installing Webmin. Once installed, use Webmin to configure your Samba shares.

    Drills and routers

I bought the Makita at Makro for R2799. Drill + charger + 2 x 1.3ah batts. They had a bosch (blue) on special as well, but I prefer Makita/Hitachi. I also bought a Hitachi Router (with a 12mm collet) which cost me around R1300 - but that was a wholesale special. Not that I have had any time or...

D-Link adsl router and wifi with phones...

I am on the opposite side, 3G HSDPA/HSUPA has not been kind to me. There are very few places that I get decent enough performance and those places are NOT at my house or office!! On the other hand I have a 2MBps ADSL line and the internet is responsive. Yes its not as fast as 10Mbps - but the...

    Camera experts

I echo the sentiments of the other posters, bridge cameras are too big to be pocketable. If you are considering a bridge, perhaps take a look at entry level DSLR as well. The bigger sensor give you a much cleaner image and the handling, mechanical shutter and optical evf, does much better than...

+1 trillion! Education > BBBEEE and I hope that the masses wake up and see that the ruling party isn't giving the nation what it needs to prosper in the future.

    Medical aid recommendations?

I am in much the same position. Been married for 1yr and I have been on Discovery since my first real job - so the wife is busy filling out the forms today to at least get her on as we are planning to start a family in the next year or so. I also need to research as the benefits are definitely a...

    Is the PC dead?

Dying - I think is a bit too harsh. In decline, definitely. But as many posters above stated, there will be a market. Tablets are doing to desktop workstations what the ipod did to hifi audio. Is hifi audio dead? Nope. But it did decline drastically as consumers accepted digital audio on a...

    Is the PC dead?

For mainstream (and some users not so mainstream) Tablets and Smartphones are providing enough services to keep them happy. However, I look at what can be accomplished with similarly priced desktops, laptops and smart phones/tablets. Hands down desktops will win, for all the reasons stated...

    Looking for laboratory dropper

I think what you are looking for is a solenoid valve. You apply a voltage for them to open and can open them to varying degrees. This lets you control the flow of the droplets. If you want a non-electrical solution look at something like the Mariotte Bottle. This lets you create a constant flow...

LF: Sound Blaster AWE64 or alike

I had two Soundblasters - ASP 16 and AWE64 and can concur that you would need an ISA slot. I never used them once I switched to PCI and PCI-Express, and did purchase an (PCI-Express) audigy at one stage due to driver issues with the onboard audio on one of my motherboards. IMHO even if you can...

    Recommend a camera

I found getting into the camera hobby a slippery slope and made a couple of wrong decisions wrt to lenses. If you have shot on film before but now want to revive the hobby you should more or less have an idea of the kind of lenses you want. Canon vs Nikon vs ... I have a Canon and at times I...

    Fraud

The list of prices is formatted like every scam price list I've seen on Gumtree. If you are going to shop on the internet, always buy from a reputable site. If the price is amazingly good, do thorough research before you commit any sort of Cash. If the store has a physical presence - check them...

Source for a USB laptop lamp - Cape Town

The is a gadget shop next to BT Games - They sell all kinds of USB stuff - Never bought there myself as it looks low quality and overpriced. But pop in there to have a look nevertheless.

    Data recovery from old harddrive

Easiest advice actually if all you want to do is access the data (not run applications like they did on the old).

Special at Esquire - 1 TB HDD at R639 ex VAT

I have 4x 2TB WD Greens. I DONT use them in a RAID array and I'm very happy with them. Over the years I have had bad experiences with many drives, Hitachi, Seagate, Samsung, Maxtor, Quantum and Western Digital. Certain drives/series were badly produced - but I don't think the WD Greens falls...

Check this keyboard out for your htpc

I have this logitech and much prefer it to the Air-mouse variant keyboards. I have a logitech harmony as well, so for the most part, my XBMC is controlled with that. It is only when I need to type and navigate a bit more optimally with a mouse pointer through the menus that I resort to the...
