Is there a very decent AV amplifier for under R1500'ish new?

haha you do neilh ....... I do miss it but I'm after a cheap HDMI solution. You are right LAV, I'm leaning more towards "home theatre in a box" which I dont want. I guess R1500 is a bit low for new kit. I'll keep my eyes on the forum for something second hand. Its also not urgent.

Is there a very decent AV amplifier for under R1500'ish new?

Hi Guys I'm looking for a decent AV amplifier with lets say 3 to 4 HDMI inputs and anything upwards of 30W amplification just for the lounge. I'm not looking for Audiophile quality but it must be acceptable for general movies, radio and some music. I'm planning to run a decent stereo system in...

    Music room size

Thanks for the replies guys. I knew that this will be dangerous if i go that route. Its not really the WAF preventing me to get a good setup as she also enjoys listening. Its more that I want my own room, testing different kit etc. The more I think about it the more I'm leaning to the "not a...

    Music room size

Hi Guys So at the moment my stereo system is in my lounge and the room size is approx 4m X 8m. Due to doors, couches and coffee tables I'm limited with speaker placement. Then there's the WAF (wife acceptance factor) too. So I do have the option to use a 2.9m X 3.2m room for stereo audio only...

What is the best 'out of the box' media player

I vote for the pocornhour. Recently bought the A-210 and what I love about it is that it can play everything. From flac's to mkv's. You have to be connected to the internet to update your database with all the nice album covers etc. but that's understandable. It works fine without internet...

Your best value for money item??

Ok so just saw a post on Sennheiser PX100 headphones in the headphone section and thought i'll ask everyone what their best value for money audio item is. Mine is definitely my PX100 headphones. Bought them 6 years ago for ?27 in England and they still play with punch and they compare well...

    Sennheiser PX100 Refurbish

Hi Homer I refurbished my PX100's a while ago. I bought the pads from a guy called Erik with a shop called Audio Equip from Amazon. I bought some other stuff too so the shipping wasn't too bad but guess if you only going to buy that it wont make sense. I see now that they are $10, ouch ...

How do you keep your equipment cool?

Compressed air in a tin will be better than nothing but its not really strong enough. It think its quite expensive as well. If you can get your hands on one of those adapters to pump rugby or soccer balls you can go do it at a petrol station .... you might get a few strange looks though, hehe...

How do you keep your equipment cool?

Hi bavs108 As Tachyon mentioned there are vents on the side of the unit (slim ps3). If you turn the unit upside down you will see them. Just like you mentioned my ps3 did exactly the same and the fan was really loud. I blew mine out with compressed air using a compressor (not the tins) and...

Amp Reserve Power & Brute Wattage needed even at Low Volumes?

Hi Skylark, I dont have a definite answer but I experienced the same when I upgraded from my KEF Q compacts to Kef IQ5 floorstanders. The amp was a bit more powerful at 80W. I connected my floorstanders and didnt notice anything different although they could go a bit louder. About a year later I...

    Listening to Compresses Music Files

Yes, a DAC and a music streamer as audiomuze mentioned. Be careful not to go for a cheaper streamer as some don't support FLAC's. CD's are dying yes. Vinyls(heard sales increased actually), cassettes, CD's and now digital files. Wonder what will be next? I cant think of anything other than...

    Power cable listening session

I'm in! I agree with not too many cables and then possibly add a conditioner in there with one of the tests. Would be useful if we can possibly know which tracks will be played so that I can listen at home and get some sort of reference. I know we only want to test for power cable differences...

Please help me build my first stereo system.

With a 5.1 system you will listen and wonder how good that stereo setup would have sounded.

Please help me build my first stereo system.

Hi I would definitely look at the second hand market if i was you. LAV mentioned Cambridge Audio and I have to agree with him. I use to run my Cambridge 640A V2 with my ps3 and KEF Q compact bookshelfs. That is about R10k excluding the ps3 and you will probably find a used pair of B&W's and a...

Improving your setup ... myths or true or just grey

I've been googling the topics bi-wiring (not bi-amping) and power cable upgrades to improve your system the past few days. It's probably the two most grey areas in the hi-fi world according to what i have read. Some listeners say to not waste money and others say that a power cord for instance...
