Repairing it would definitely be worth it. Sounds like there could be a dry cap in the signal path. Could be something small - however I would recommend a recap. My 3020 recap was well under the R500 for parts. Fortunately I had a mate help me with the labour...

Sometimes when my wife activates the alarm - the garage doors open / or close. Was pulling my car out the other day - and quickly had to scramble out the garage. Your story sounds very odd though. Could be a mains spike. When we have big thunder storms - our alarm system beeps about 5 seconds...

lolol! The two of you need a room! :p So - I suppose I shouldnt say that bi-amping on my Pioneer AV resulted in a definite improvement in sound. However - in alignment to Tupac's Shooter - the power amp contributed to the largest improvement in sound.

Bump. Any suggestions? Last resort - and probably most expensive would be to take the face plate off - have it powder coated and then re-etched.

+1 on that. Talib's A7's love his Onkyo.., But on the lower end AVRs a power amp definitely helps with higher volume delivery.

Had them running on my Pioneer AV-2016, then ran the front stage on my NAD3020 (as a power amp). Now have them running off my Rotel 985 Mk2 and Marantz 5007 receiver. Sound best off the Marantz/Rotel combo. The Rotel is 110w per channel. I may try bi-amp with the Marantz.

Vintage Bookshelfs for my garage setup, USB DAC and maybe an upgrade to my recently acquired Marantz SR5007 (which is fantastic).

Thanks - weirdly - I only saw this now. I recently acquired a new AV Receiver and it has made my power amp look even worse! Bump - for anyone that may have a solution. I've tried car polishes, car rubbing compounds and iron decontaminate spray... All yielded zero improvement. Who are the Rotel...
