    Actual pixie dust?

Pardon my illusion, I thought this forum was about auditory experiences...  :???:

Speakers move when amplifier powered off

Perhaps not so OFC after all?  ;D

Speakers move when amplifier powered off

If one "believes" in cables, it might be oxygen molecules returning to their oxygen-free vacancies or copper grains orientating after dancing to the music...  :EGrin:

Speakers move when amplifier powered off

This generally is due to charge/discharge of internal capacitors at switch-on/off .  Good design should take this behaviour into account.  For example, some amplifiers use delay switching via relays or semiconductors to only connect speakers after the circuit has settled on swich-on, or...

    The Cape Town Hi-Fi Club

It was indeed a very enjoyable evening, and a most unusual and interesting room - visually almost a medieval feel, one almost expected to see a knight in armour appear - and acoustically the size, shape and volume gave the speakers great possibility to bloom which they did very well, a great...

    Gate Motor Advice

I recently had a frustrating time finding an intermittent fault on an ET500 motor.  The gate would randomly not start to close from a fully open position, sometimes giving the audible signal of "max collisions reached".  After eliminating all possible mechanical issues and all wiring/connection...

    ABBA is back!

They certainly gave us some memorable somgs - fun lyrics, pleasant harmonies, great melodies...yeah..real tunes  :groovy: Quite a contrast to rap... ;D

    Cinema's too loud?

Its surely a reflection of the lack of interest/knowledge/training of the operating staff - which in turn is a direct reflection of the management.  Sadly rather too common nowadays...

The battle of English and math

YES!  Have a good dose of MUSIC...  that will solve all the problem!!!  ;D

    Sme 3009 MKII

Well said Ingvar.  With too low tracking force, the stylus may well loose contact with the groove and effectively become a "projectile" which will collide with the opposite grove wall and may chip away portions resulting in serious permanent groove damage.  I am sure some of the vinyl fundis can...

Seeking cheap Mini-ITX case & PSU

I have used cooler-master-elite-120 and was very pleased with it - well made and finished, a newer model is also available cooler-master-elite-130.  The cooler-master-haf-915r suggested by Wolvebain also seems interesting and is available even cheaper from Raru.

Level/gain matching 2 different power amps

Good to hear that worked OK Rodney, I look forward to your comments on the acoustic result of bi-amping your Spirits.  I am sorry that I had to miss the recent visit by the CT HiFi Club to hear the Spirits with your equipment and room setup, you obviously have a dream-worthy music room.  I hope...

Level/gain matching 2 different power amps

With a typical DMM with at least a 3 1/2 digit display with appropriate range setting or autorange so that you are using all the display digits, you are sensing to much better than 0.1 dB anyway, so a DMM is quite adequate with the proviso's I mentioned above. Regards Huntly

Level/gain matching 2 different power amps

What you propose should be fine Rodney, assuming that each power amp is being used wideband without any filtering so all crossover circuits are in the speakers.  If there is any filtering before the speakers, ensure that the frequencies you use for the test tones are within the passband for each...

    Mixing speakers with different impedance

Agree with the above guidance given.  As can be seen from the impedance graphs in the audioholics reference posted by bbe22, the impedance magnitude varies considerably over the frequency range and is not pure resistive either. As long as you do not connect loudspeakers with a very much lower...

What Decca arm is this one?

Those Decca ffss pickups were unusual. Their origins date back to mono LP days and when stereo LPs were first mooted, Decca proposed using the "hill and dale" system with one channel carried in horizontal (lateral) motion (as in mono) and the second channel carried in vertical motion. The Decca...

    Grace Sigma-709 Integrated Pickup Arm

Sorry I repeated one pic  :(  (still learning the ropes here...)  Missing one below. I agree Skollie it does seem of very high quality, by "basic" I was meaning without extra features such as a lowering mechanism. I probably bought this in the mid to late 70's when I was helping several...

    Grace Sigma-709 Integrated Pickup Arm

Thanks for the comments guys. Pics as follows: If anyone has found more info, e.g. tracking weight of this cartridge etc I would be grateful to know. It's obviously a fairly basic arm, no lowering mechanism, but has anti-skating device and looks very nicely made. (This is my first...

    Grace Sigma-709 Integrated Pickup Arm

After a recent move from Durban to Cape Town I unearthed the following unused item long since forgotten about: Grace Sigma-709 pickup arm with integrated F8 cartridge.  Its still in the original packaging, never been installed or used. Probably bought in the 1970's although I have no...

    Telkom LTE

to koogs: I live in Dipdale Road near the Parkside Junior Primary - just inside an LTE coverage zone as per Telkom's map.  This Telkom LTE is certainly a step up from the approx. 1,4 Mb/s max download (on a rare occasion) I was getting on their 3G.
