Any good armature re-winders around ?

Hi Marantz, I've used Al's electrical motor repairs in Honeydew a few times. They've rewound one of my lawnmower motors and a pool pump as well as replaced bearings. They are very reasonable and do a great job. I'm not sure if they'll do something as small as a jigsaw motor, but it's certainly...

    Bentley acoustics advertisement

Yup, excellent stuff!!  :2thumbs: I agree with Pappa, slower pans across the speakers and display them for just a bit longer, we want to see those drivers. Like looking in the engine bay of a Ferrari F12..

    New amp build

Great stuff Cross_over!  I'd recommend putting in a speaker protection circuit of some sort, just in case one of the output transistors goes bang and sends a high current DC signal to your speakers. Something like this...

Need to register a domain name - advice please

Yup, very good, use them for most of my clients, co.za domains are very cheap through them, much cheaper than if you go through co.za themselves.

    My speaker farted !!!

:giggle: Sounds like the sub bottomed out. Just don't push it any harder otherwise there might be muddy effects from the flared port.

Will this mic work for REW etc.?

Ja, a calibrated mic will be better if you want to do full room correction, but there's certainly no harm in using it as is for now and seeing if you do notice a difference before and after. The response of decent mics usually don't deviate a huge amount from uncalibrated to calibrated.

Valve Audio Exclame 150 paired with Bentley Acoustics FS-150

El Sid might be able to comment. He borrowed my FS-150s for a couple of months, although he has the Exclame 100. The FS-150s have big bass, so unless you're a bass head, the sub won't be necessary.

Will this mic work for REW etc.?

Depends what you want to do with it. If you want to use it for building crossovers or other precision work then a calibrated mic is a must. If you just want to EQ your sub then high precision isn't necessary and you can use it as is.

    Speaker recommendation questions

The Denon amp may still have the previous owners Audyssey/EQ settings set. Check in the menu for something like factory default settings and reset it to default. That'll be a good starting point. Also, as Winslow has said, if the primary use is for movies, a sub is essential. (Two subs even...

    Wharfedale Crystal 4 5.0

Yup, definitely good enough for an entry level surround system.  Infinitely better than a Mgongo or similar trashy system. (And probably cheaper too!)

Samsung TV, not so great as expected !

Yup, that's a silly amount of money to pay for something that isn't a huge upgrade from a 85" 4K TV costing R37K at Makro. There's hardly any 8K content available at the moment, and going from 4K to 8K on consumer sized TVs will not be much of an improvement.  I think 8K is going to be the...

    Lafayette Superheterodyne Radio - 1935

Hmm, not sure why you went to so much trouble servicing the radio. You should've just posted it to: Loewe Radio Service, P.O. Box 1320, Cape Town.

    speakers keep clipping

^ +1 Exactly as Shonver has said, or the other possibility is that your amp is defective, perhaps the power supply is faulty and isn't able to deliver the rated power and starts clipping at a lower voltage than it was designed to do.
