Building a stereo high end system around a subwoofer

Was just wondering.
I know 'integration' is the biggest stumbling block but why not build a system around something like a JL audio Gotham with all the dsp trickery that comes with it?
If your bass is sorted, does it not open your choices for satelites much more?
