Loosing your hearing- do you fade away or call it quits ?

I once visited a audiophile with super nice equipment and after 20 minutes I realised that my host must be going deaf for he could not hear what I was hearing.


That was a serious wake-up call for me.  I fact I suspect that audiophiles do not want to confront this reality. 


So what do you do:


a) Continue to upgrade, drool over looks and hope that you will hear more;

or

b) Actively decide to call it quits and downgrade ? But then at what point do you make this decision.
