I have a set of small Boston Acoustic speakers coupled with the Yamaha RX A810 and did an experiment of coupling said speakers with a much larger RX 3050 with the expectation that it would make no difference as the speakers are small and more than adequate for the 810 and was amazed that the improved clarity, body and CONTROL the 3050 exerted on these tiny speakers. I've concluded watts matter.
I'm considering when funds allow to perhaps add a power amp to the 810 (front channels).
What does one need to consider when selecting a power amp.
Is the final power to the speakers a sum total of both the amps e.g. 80W + 80W = 160W in total, so the speakers will be handled like it was mated to a single 160W amp or is this incorrect considering I'll use the Pre Out's from the 810 ?

Would it make any difference whatsoever ?
