Being USB A, I am expecting the cable to work upstream. From device to phone. For typical USB DAC connections a USB B (the square printer type) rconnector is used. So a lightning to USB B should be used. USB 3.0 (bigger connector) is also not uncommon in newer DAC's.

Voltage swing is what the >=250 ohm phones will like, low loads like 32 ohms like current. Balanced output effectively doubles voltage swing and can theorecally quadruple power output if output devices can sweat.
