When to fix or dump faulty equipment?

I have recently had a spate of equipment failure. A Denon CD player DCD-435 has become erratic in locating inserted discs, and another example, a fairly new Energy V10 Subwoofer has a blown amp. I am left wondering whether I should dump these items and replace or attempt to have them repaired ... initial estimates from the dealer who sold me the Energy match the selling price I paid for the sub. Any advice from this respected forum would be appreciated.
