    Recommended Inverter Supplier

Hello All I'm about to move into a new house and decided I may aswell bite the bullet and order some kit. They're not going to get cheaper. I'm thinking the Sunsynk 5 kW will suffice. It seems to do it all in terms of upgradeability and versatility, and has a good reputation. Any...

    Outdoor beams/PIR's recommendation

Thanks for the input all. @chrisc, I was wondering when I would get your input! Perhaps I should solicit your consulting skills...... It's in Rondebosch, not far from you.

    Outdoor beams/PIR's recommendation

Hello All. I'm moving to a new house soon and want to plan the security system. I have a good alarm guy, but I know it's a mine field of new stuff out there. I currently have Optex BX80N beams (wired) which have been great, with the exception of the north facing shade-less unit which does go...

    Buying and selling cars privately

The thing about Webuycars is that the nature of the way they sell it to you (essentially an auction or something?) means that you are not protected by the consumer protection act, it's Voetstoets. If you buy from a regular dealer, you are covered by the CPA (in theory anyway). This is how it was...

Recommendations on mini UPS to keep WiFi on

So last year sometime I bought one of these Securi-Prod units with an 18Ah battery from ChrisC here on the forum. The battery is doing duty in my alarm, and the charger unit is now the UPS (using a 7Ah lead acid battery) for my WiFi router, exactly as described above. Works perfectly! Thanks...

Motorcycle riders: preventing fogging up of helmet visor DIY

The pinlock visor Trompies refers to on newer helmets works excellently.

How do I get the most accurate book value on a car?

If your Hilux is in decent condition with service history you will get more than trade value on a trade in. The market is still elevated, particularly for Toyotas. Always shop around. If you have a strong stomach put it on the gummer! I sold many cars and bikes without issue. Or sell it here...

Ideas, opinions and guidance sought re upgrading a CD player

I'm using a Dacmagic 1 (far older than the 100), and have found it has a much warmer and deeper sound when my NAD bluray/SACD players a transport, than when using the NAD's own onboard DAC. This opinion was shared by both my mate and my wife, but as the guys have said above it's very subjective...

Advice on buying a second hand bakkie

Any of the Japanese 1 tonners are well made, Toyota have the best resale (for good reason), but for the light work you are describing a Nissan NP300 is a good bet (and well priced), just pretty old safety technology, and smaller than the newer bakkies. 1 tonners are designed as work horses...

    Imperial bolts and nuts

Maybe try the hydraulic and/or pneumatic guys, they carry all sorts of odd standards. OR they might point you in a direction at least. Fowkes Bros in Paarden Eiland are woth a call too.

    French Cars (Renault, specifically)

Agreed, the Kwid was the worst hire car I've ever driven, the Sandero not far behind. Having said that, my father in-law has a Duster (diesel) and has had no issues over a few years. I've enjoyed driving it.

    Used Car Market

After a few months of trying to buy a secondhand Fortuner, I opted to just buy a new one for marginally more money, felt like I was getting less ripped off. The used prices on sought after cars are ridiculous, supply and demand. Good time to sell though.

What would you do: buyer dragging their feet to change ownership on car sale?

Yes, I've been down that road as well. You need to submit that yellow form ASAP after handing the car over, all traffic violations on the buyers side could be your problem until you do.

    Wharfedale Crystal 4 5.0

I think you did well at R 3k for a neat matching set. Just get a nice little active sub to go with it, doesn't have to be big. Those older Yamahas go for around R 1 to 1,5k. More than adequate for home AV in a normal sized room. Leagues ahead of a sound bar in my opinion, but I'm a stereo kind...

    Wharfedale Crystal 4 5.0

Just don't overpay on them. I had a set of Diamond 10.6 floorstanders a few years back, and the matching centre. I battled to get something like R 2.5k for the floorstanders and R 1.5k for the centre. All in mint condition. That was what they were going for generally at the time. I think those...
